Inspiration for The Super Easy Crochet Beanie

When you’re first starting out crocheting you’re practicing the basic crochet stitches over and over again. It’s necessary to know the basics. But you also end up with a bunch of useless little crochet squares lying around in a drawer somewhere.

That thought made me wonder: How can all these squares be turned into something that’s actually useful?

At the same time, I wanted to make a super beginner-friendly crochet beanie for fall and winter. I had some gorgeous wool/alpaca left from another project. Maybe I could make a combination of all three; a square, a beanie and the leftover wool yarn…

I played around with ideas for a while. As a result, The Super Easy Crochet Beanie patterns for beginners came to life.

It really is no more than a square of wool yarn that’s sewn together 😄

The Super Easy Crochet Beanie is both easy, modern, feminine and quick to make. What more could you ask for? 💕

Construction

The Super Easy Crochet Beanie is worked in rows lengthwise and in one piece which is sewn together. It’s made from a simple 1-row repeat.

The pattern below includes in-depth written instructions which walk you through exactly how to make your own crochet beanie. You can make the beanie in 2 different sizes for adults – see the size guide below.

Start by measuring your head. This way you are able to choose the correct size as described below. If you’re making the beanie for someone else it’s a good idea to do the same. It would be a shame if the beanie did not fit now that you’ve put in an effort into making a pretty present😊

Note: The beanie is a little stretchy. That means that the finished size of your beanie will be a bit smaller than your head circumference. It stretches once you’re wearing it.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS FOR
THE SUPER EASY CROCHET BEANIE

The beanie

Use hook 9 mm. Work in rows.

Ch 22 (24). Be aware that the foundation ch is neither to loose or to tight.

Row 1: Start in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each st across, turn [ 20 (22) ]

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn [ 20 (22) ]

Repeat row 2: 28 (30) times

You now have the following number of rows for the size you’re making:

Adult Small: 30 rows
Adult Large: 32 rows

Break the yarn and leave a tail, approx. 36’’ / 90 cm, for sewing the beanie together.

Now follow the instructions below to sew your Super Easy Crochet Beanie together.

Sewing the beanie together

Thread a darning needle using the long tail you left on the last row. Fold the beanie (there’s no right or wrong side – isn’t that easy?!) and sew it together with whip stitch.

Turn inside out. This is now your right side.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Closing the top

Now you’re going to close off the top. Thread the darning needle with a leftover piece of the yarn, approx. 8’’ / 20 cm.

Weave the yarn through the rows on the top of the beanie. Pull the yarn to close the top and tighten as much as possible. Sew up any remaining opening on top of the beanie.

Fasten off and weave in ends using a darning needle.

Attaching pom pom

Now sew a yarn or faux fur pom pom to the beanie. The pom pom in the pictures measures approx. 4’’ / 10 cm.
