A bit about this free crochet bandana pattern
The Breezy Boho Bandana is one of those small crochet projects that can change an outfit fast. It adds texture, shape, and a soft boho feel without taking forever to make, so it works well as a stash-busting project when a quick win is needed.
This free crochet head scarf pattern is designed to look detailed without becoming overly complicated. The lace sections and open stitch work give the bandana its airy look, while the triangle construction keeps the project structured and easy to follow row by row.
It is also a flexible pattern. First, the bandana can be worn as a head scarf for warm-weather styling. Then, with a hook and yarn change, the same design can be turned into a hip scarf. That gives the pattern stronger value than a one-look accessory.
Moreover, the tie straps are crocheted directly onto the bandana, which means less finishing and no separate sewing step for straps. That makes the project feel cleaner from start to finish.
Why this crochet bandana pattern stands out
- Pretty lace details that still use very basic crochet building blocks
- Fast project that works well for stash busting
- Built-in tie straps with no separate sewing for straps
- Can also be made as a hip scarf
- Detailed written pattern with photo support in the printable PDF version

Construction overview
The Breezy Boho Bandana is worked from the center out. First, begin with chains joined into a small loop. Then, crochet into the loop in what seems like starting a granny square.
The bandana is constructed in rows to form the triangle shape. Each row contributes to the pretty lace pattern. Once you’re done with the main part of the bandana, it’s finally time to crochet the tie straps, which are seamlessly incorporated into the bandana and require no sewing.
You can easily adjust the length of the tie straps. Just add more chains until you reach the desired length.
Personal adjustments
Turn you bandana into a hip scarf: Change your crochet hook to a 4.5 mm, yarn to cotton 8/8 yarn, follow the pattern and your bandana is now hip scarf size (fits XS, S & M)
Skill level
Lower intermediate
Sizing and measurements

Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 (8/8 for hip scraf)
Yardage: 50 grams = 160 meters / 174.98 yards
Color code: Nude (003)
MATERIALS
Bandana: One skein will give two bandanas if you maintain the exact gauge.
Hip scarf: One or two skeins of 8/8 cotton yarn, depending on the yardage.
ALTERNATIVES
Bandana: Other Super Fine (UK 2 ply), 1-weight yarn.
Hip scarf: Other Light (UK DK), 3-weight yarn.

Repeats are either written in between * and * or in between ** and **. When stitches are in between ( and ) the number of repeats are written just after.

Do not break yarn. Now it’s time to follow the pattern and crochet the tie straps for your bandana.
Tie straps
Use hook 2.5 mm.
Step 1:
Ch 86, turn, sl st in the back bump of each ch.
Step 2:
Ch 1, sc in top of dc cluster, ch 2, sc in top of next dc cluster, and repeat across until a sc has been placed in the last dc cluster. When the two middle dc clusters from row 1 are reached, place 1 sc in the ch 2 space between the 2 dc clusters instead of placing a sc in the top of each cluster.
Step 3:
Ch 86, sl st in the back bump of each ch, ch 1, sl st in the ch 2 space of the last dc cluster.
Break the yarn and weave in ends.
Turn the bandana into a hip scarf
To make the hip scarf version, switch to a 4.5 mm hook and use cotton 8/8 yarn. Then follow the same pattern.
